The accompanying track for Blind Alley, <<Verlassen>>, was written and performed by myself with the assistance of Matthew Dopking and Connor MacNeil, several months ago during the original work period for the project. This piece offered many unique challenges for both playing and recording because for the project, we mapped the audio to the visual ques happening on screen, instead of the much more conventional opposite. That said, we managed to finalize the session in under an hour, and compiled the prototype shortly thereafter.
Due to both the style of the composition and the method in which we recorded, one of the most prominent elements (for me, anyway) was the juxtaposition of slow, gentile rhythms with heavy syncopation and strange poly-rhythms underneath the main melody. Between that and the combination of an impressionistic approach and semi classical and experimental forms, this has been one of the most fun and interesting pieces for me to have played.
